Building Blocks For a Healthy Future
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Center for Substance Abuse Prevention created the "Building Blocks for a Healthy Future" program to educate parents and caregivers about the basics of prevention for children ages 3 to 6. "Building Blocks" reinforces the skills that enable parents and caregivers to better nurture and protect their children as well as helping their children develop healthy, pro-social behaviors and attitudes.

Family Guide
A Family Guide To Keeping Youth Mentally Healthy & Drug Free is a public education Web site developed by SAMHSA to communicate to parents and other caring adults about how they can promote mental health and prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs among 7- to 18-year-olds.

Too Smart to Start
Too Smart To Start is designed to educate 9- to 13-year-olds about the harms of alcohol use and to support parents and caregivers as they participate in their children's activities. The objectives of the initiative are to: increase the number of conversations that parents/caregivers and their 9- to 13-year-old children have about the harms of underage alcohol use; increase the percentage of 9- to 13-year-olds and their parents/caregivers who see underage alcohol use as harmful; and increase public disapproval of underage alcohol use.

This Web site is a comprehensive portal of Federal resources for information on underage drinking and ideas for combating this issue. People interested in underage drinking prevention—including parents, educators, community-based organizations, and youth—will find a wealth of valuable information here.

Reach Out Now Teach-In
Since 2002, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Scholastic Inc., have collaborated to provide school-based, underage alcohol use prevention materials in time for Alcohol Awareness Month each April. This two-part set of materials is designed especially for use by fifth- and sixth-grade students, their families, and their teachers. The materials are sent to fifth- and sixth-grade classroom teachers nationwide each year.
